Niamh of Sevenwaters. (dal libro di Juliet Marillier, 'Il Figlio delle Ombre'.)

'Quella sera mia sorella era splendida. I fuochi dei camini erano stati riat-
tizzati, e c'era un falò, fuori, e sidro, e danze. Faceva abbastanza fresco. Mi
ero gettata uno scialle sulle spalle, ma tremavo ugualmente. Le spalle di
Niamh erano invece nude sopra l'abito blu notte, e i capelli d'oro grazio-
sfida.'

Winter time

ecco i primi scatti^^.

The Green Lady of Caerphillys.

Every night when the wind howls among the towers of Caerphillys Castle, southern Galles, a lonely pilgrim would happen to meet the beautiful Alice of Angouleme, the Green Dame, walking gently through the wall-passages, her gown barely touching the old castle's portcullis. Sometimes she whispers frozen wishes from the walls to the ear of the lonely tourist.
The story tells that Alice was the ancient owner of the castle until she fell in love with Gruffrudd, the prince of Brithdir, becoming soon her lover.
Her deranged husband, Lord Gilbert aware of the betrayal, sent his wife back to France and ordered his men to find Gruffudd to dangle him at the end of a noose.

When the new of her beloved prince's death came across the sea, Alice immediantly did away with herself. Before exhaling the last breath, she swore she would had never let her husband go, and after seeing the gates of the Otherworld, she soon came back to her Castle in order to give Lord Gilbert a neverending life of torments and pain.

The legend tells about the fidgety soul of the Lady, wandering through the nights of the ancient manor with her fire hair and forest green gown, trembling in the mist. When a lonely creature happens to pass beyond the Sidhe, and take a glimpse of her dress' hem, she soon hides between the dark green Ivy that grows on the Castle's walls. No one can tell whether she turns
into the old plant or just disappears in it...

******

“The wise women learn the mystic powers from the fairies, but how they pay for the knowledge none dare to tell. (...) But the people have, the most perfect faith in the herb-men and wise women, and the faith may often work the cure”.
